چکیده

Studies of mobile ad-hoc networks are often based on simulation and their underlying, necessarily simplified assumptions of physical reality. In order to analyse the practical problems we built our own hardware and software. The hardware consists of a core Motorola controller and different wired and wireless interfaces like a Bluetooth and a 433/868 MHz RF module. It allows therefore analysing different scenarios: First, the deployment of a pure ad-hoc network using Bluetooth or 433/868 MHz RF modules. Scenarios going beyond this cover the connection of Bluetooth piconets using the complementary RF technology. This overcomes the proximity requirements of Bluetooth scatternets. Finally, hybrid scenarios with some nodes connected to the Internet and providing Web access over a multihop adhoc network can be studied. In this paper we present the testbed and solutions realized up to now. These include home automation scenarios as well as support for mobile ad-hoc games.

Capacity Enhancement of Ad Hoc Networks using a New Beamforming Scheme Based on ESPAR

This paper proposes a new smart antenna beamforming scheme based on electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR). The proposed method is capable of providing better capacity compared to the conventional ESPAR. The termination of each antenna element in this structure comprises a PIN diode in addition to a varactor. Using PIN diode besides the varactor provides more degrees of freed...

Integration of Heterogeneous Ad hoc Networks with the Internet

This paper describes a testbed realized at T-Systems in Darmstadt (Germany) that handles the integration of ad hoc networks with the Internet. The testbed contains a Mobile Gateway that connects an IPv6 based ad hoc network over a cellular network (e. g. GPRS or UMTS) with the Internet. The testbed is also able to handle multiple gateways within the same ad hoc domain. This paper describes seve...

LEBRP - A Lightweight and Energy Balancing Routing Protocol for Energy-Constrained Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...

Using GNU Radio for Experiments on Data Distribution in Wireless Ad-hoc Networks

Both simulation and experimentation in a real environment are important in the evaluation of protocol performance in wireless ad-hoc networks. Simulation is useful for evaluating systems that are difficult to implement inexpensively. However, it is not easy to simulate the behavior of radio signals in the real world on a large scale. Experimentation is required to evaluate implemented software/...

Towards a realistic testbed for wireless network reliability and security performance studies

This paper will describe our research on the creation of a wireless ad-hoc network testbed where ad hoc network applications can be tested in real radio environments. The testbed will be easy to use and modular enough to allow users to quickly adapt the testbed to their own use. To study and test ‘reliability’ performance, a light-weight transport protocol and an on-demand routing protocol will...
